7 November, 14.30-16.00 Side Event at the EU Pavillon

TITLE OF THE SIDE EVENT: 1.5°C - Mobilising action and political will for a safer future

ORGANISERS:

THEMATIC FOCUS:
The event will discuss the implications of the 1.5C limit and generate suggestions for political action and global mobilisation with a focus on pre-2020 action

DESCRIPTION: 
The inclusion of the 1.5°C limit in the Paris Agreement was a key achievement from the perspective of vulnerable countries and communities, conveying a message of hope to survive and thrive under a changing climate. Now it is time to take steps for its implementation and to build up mobilisation in policy and practice in the run-up to the key political moment of 2018. The side event will discuss recent developments with regard to 1.5°C and key actions and decisions that need to be taken, including in the EU.

Shifting investments towards revenewable energy

DESCRIPTION:
We will discuss the national and regional case for a shift to renewable energy & energy in four regions of the world. We will identify the challenges, opportunities and drivers of change towards a zero carbon world. We will discuss ways forward to closing the ambition gap, while delivering sustainable energy development.

TITLE OF THE SIDE EVENT:
How Turkey Could De-Risk its Energy Pathway and Reap the Benefits of Low Carbon Transition

THEMATIC FOCUS:
Mitigation action and INDCs with a focus on Turkey

DESCRIPTION:
This event will discuss low carbon development opportunities in Turkey, illustrating its benefits together with shifting to a 100% renewables pathway. It will present two reports on the co-benefits of taking climate action, setting the scene for policy makers and experts to discuss how benefits and risks can be factored in the policy making processes.
